Helsinki Cathedral is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.. From June through August it is open till midnight. Free entrance.
It is the main landmark and attraction of Helsinki. From 2018 visitors to Helsinki Cathedral can rent for a small fee a virtual reality (VR) headset to transport to the top of the cupola and enjoy views in all directions. The VR experience also offers information about the Cathedral and the statues of the 12 Apostles that adorn the Cathedral roof.
Helsinki Cathedral is the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral. The church was built from 1830-1852.
The Senate Square is the oldest part of central Helsinki. Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace (to the left from the Cathedral), main building of the University of Helsinki (to the right from the Cathedral) are located on the sides of the square.
Helsinki City Museum is located on the southeast corner of the square. The National Library of Finland is located northwest of the square and worth visiting.
Digital carillon music called the Sound of the Senate Square is played daily at 17:49. The optimal listening position is near the bronze statue of Alexander II in the center of the Square.
Market Square is a traditional market with food and treats, handicrafts and souvenirs. Located next to the Harbour. There are tents with local street food worth tasting and enjoy sea views.
