Christmas concert by Lapland Military Band. Rovaniemi Church.

The Lapland Military Band’s warm-hearted Christmas concert, beloved and popular indeed, will bring us the Christmas spirit this year, too. Soprano Anna-Maria Jurvelin will perform as a visiting soloist. Along with the soloist, the audience will also get to join in accompanied by the professional orchestra.

Santa is on His Way -broadcast 2021. Santa Claus Village, Arctic Circle

Each year, Santa leaves Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland to bring Christmas cheer to people all around the globe. Santa Claus gives his speech wishing merry Christmas to the whole world before hopping in his reindeer-pulled sleigh and embarking on his tour. This year, the event will be organized with no audience due to latest corona restrictions. The event will be broadcasted on Facebook by Visit Rovaniemi on December 23rd at 7 PM local time (UTC +2).

Arctic Lapland Rally. Rovaniemi, Lapland

The 57th Arctic Lapland Rally in 2022 will be competed on Friday and Saturday the 14-15th of January. The competitors start their arctic adventure on the over 220 kilometres of special stages already on Monday the 10th of January when the reconnaissance period begins. The rally route sees changes for 2022 as over 23% and over 50 special stage kilometres are new to all the drivers. For spectators the biggest change is the new special stage right in the heart of Rovaniemi at the Ounasvaara ski center. Naturally the route also includes beloved stages, such as the familiar final stage of Ristilampi at the remote Finnish Defence Forces training grounds. The brave rivals face endless snowy roads and ice cold temperatures at the mercy of the Lappish wilderness!

Rovaniemi is the hometown of Santa Claus in Lapland and is famous for its reindeer. Every year, at the end of winter, several reindeer races happen in the Rovaniemi area.

How to get to Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle?

TO FINLAND:

Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle located near Rovaniemi airport, Finland.

If you do not have direct flight connection with Rovaniemi, take a flight to Helsinki-Vantaa airport, Finland. And then local flight Helsinki - Rovaniemi.

FROM HELSINKI TO ROVANIEMI:

You can get to Rovaniemi from Helsinki by air, train or car.

Helsinki - Rovaniemi by air: Daily flights by Norwegian and Finnair, 4 flights per day.

When to go?

Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle open all-year-round.

Every season gives unique opportunities to see the Arctic nature in all its manifestations and do seasonal activities.

Summer would be great to enjoy Midnight sun. Autumn is perfect for colours, berries and nature exploring. But the best time to stay at Glass Igloos is from end of November till mid April to get as much as possible from the Lapland trip, activities and scenery, and more chanses to see the Northern Lights.

Note:
* December and January is time for Polar Night in Lapland when sun does not rise above the horizon. It is not dark all the time. There will be some kind of blue shining during a day and sun will be very very low. In Rovaniemi area sun rises for a couple of hours during the day time in December.

* Christmas and New Year time is very popular season in Lapland and especially at Rovaniemi area. So if you plan your holidays for the same period, be prepared to see a lot of people at main attraction sites, book activities in advance to get available spots and pay more for accommodation as it is a high season.

Rovaniemi weather in winter?

Average temperature in Rovaniemi during winter is about -15 degrees Celsius. But some days it might be around -30. Snow coverage in March is about 1m depth.

Typical daytime temperatures in the winter:

December: -20 to -10 degrees Celsius
January: -30 to -15 degrees Celsius
February: -20 to -15 degrees Celsius
March: -15 to -5 degrees Celsius

There is quite dry air and wind is not very often, so even severe frost is not so terrible.

Some Rovaniemi activity companies provide winter multi-layer clothes for rent which can be used during holidays as daily overall.
